Organic Wintergreen Essential Oil
Gaultheria procumbens | Steam-Distilled | 100% Certified Organic
Distilled from the leaves of wild-harvested Gaultheria procumbens, our Organic Wintergreen Essential Oil delivers one of nature's most potent natural sources of methyl salicylate — the bioactive compound responsible for its renowned analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and counterirritant properties. Cold-pressed and steam-distilled without solvents or synthetic additives, this single-origin oil retains its full phytochemical integrity.
🌿 Ingredients
- Gaultheria procumbens leaf oil (Organic, Steam-Distilled) — 100%
- Naturally occurring constituents: Methyl salicylate (≥96%), α-Pinene, Limonene, 3-Carene
Free from: synthetic fragrance, carrier oils, parabens, GMOs, pesticides.
✦ Benefits
- Analgesic & Anti-inflammatory: Methyl salicylate acts as a topical COX inhibitor, reducing prostaglandin synthesis and local inflammation. Comparable in mechanism to topical NSAIDs when applied dermally (Higashi et al., Journal of Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics, 2010).
- Counterirritant Action: Stimulates cutaneous thermoreceptors (TRPV1/TRPM8), producing a cooling-then-warming sensation that modulates pain perception via the gate control mechanism (Patel et al., Pain Research & Management, 2019).
- Muscle & Joint Relief: A 2021 randomised controlled trial published in Phytomedicine demonstrated significant reduction in DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) scores following topical methyl salicylate application vs. placebo (p<0.01).
- Antimicrobial Properties: In vitro studies confirm broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity of G. procumbens oil against S. aureus, E. coli, and C. albicans (Cavar Zeljkovic et al., Molecules, 2021).
- Respiratory Support: Inhalation of methyl salicylate vapour has been shown to support bronchodilation and mucosal clearance in preclinical models (Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2018).
- Circulatory Stimulation: Topical application promotes localised vasodilation, supporting nutrient delivery and recovery in targeted muscle groups.

How to Use
- Topical: Dilute 2–3 drops in 10ml of carrier oil (e.g. jojoba or sweet almond). Apply to affected area and massage gently. Do not exceed 3% dilution.
- Aromatic: Add 3–5 drops to a diffuser. Diffuse for no more than 30 minutes at a time.
- Avoid: Undiluted skin application, use near eyes or mucous membranes, use in children under 12, use during pregnancy or if taking blood-thinning medication.
⚠️ Safety Note: Wintergreen oil is high in methyl salicylate and must always be diluted before topical use. Not for internal use. Keep out of reach of children. Consult a healthcare professional before use if on anticoagulant therapy.
