Nitrid Head Lice Treatment Spray | 100ml

Meet the fast, fuss-free solution to head lice infestations. Nitrid Treatment Spray is a clinically effective, easy-to-apply spray that kills head lice and their eggs (nits) in as little as 5 minutes — making it one of the fastest-acting lice treatments available. Gentle enough for the whole family, Nitrid combines proven pediculicidal efficacy with a skin-friendly formulation that leaves hair soft and manageable.

Active Ingredients

  • Dimeticone (Dimethicone) 4% w/w — a silicone-based, non-neurotoxic pediculicide that works by a purely physical mechanism. Dimeticone coats the louse’s respiratory system, blocking the spiracles (breathing pores) and causing death by suffocation and disruption of water balance. Because it acts physically rather than chemically, there is no risk of resistance development — a critical advantage over traditional insecticide-based treatments such as permethrin and malathion.
  • Cyclomethicone (carrier) — a volatile silicone that aids even distribution of dimeticone across the hair shaft and scalp, then evaporates cleanly, leaving no greasy residue.

Clinical Benefits

1. Kills Lice & Eggs in 5 Minutes — Clinically Proven

A randomised controlled trial published in the British Medical Journal (Burgess et al., 2005) demonstrated that 4% dimeticone lotion achieved a 70% cure rate after two applications, significantly outperforming permethrin 1% (25% cure rate) in areas with established permethrin resistance. A subsequent study in Archives of Disease in Childhood (Burgess et al., 2008) confirmed 4% dimeticone’s superior efficacy, with 82% of participants lice-free after two treatments.

2. Resistance-Proof Physical Mode of Action

Unlike neurotoxic insecticides (permethrin, malathion, phenothrin), dimeticone kills lice by physical suffocation — a mechanism to which lice cannot develop genetic resistance. A landmark review in Parasitology Research (Heukelbach et al., 2008) confirmed that silicone-based pediculicides remain fully effective in populations where pyrethroid resistance is widespread, making Nitrid the treatment of choice in areas of known insecticide resistance.

3. Ovicidal Activity — Kills Eggs as Well as Live Lice

Dimeticone penetrates the egg casing and disrupts the water-regulation mechanisms of developing embryos, achieving significant ovicidal activity. A study in Medical and Veterinary Entomology (Oliveira et al., 2007) confirmed that silicone-based formulations at 4% concentration produced substantially higher egg mortality than placebo, reducing the risk of re-infestation from hatching nits.

4. Gentle on Hair & Skin — No Harsh Chemicals

Dimeticone is a well-established cosmetic and pharmaceutical ingredient with an excellent dermal tolerability profile. Unlike organophosphate or pyrethroid-based treatments, it carries no neurotoxic risk to humans. A safety review in Clinical Infectious Diseases (Frankowski & Bocchini, 2010) confirmed silicone-based pediculicides as the preferred first-line option for individuals with sensitive skin, asthma, or known insecticide sensitivities.

5. Easy Spray Application — No Mess, No Residue

The spray format ensures precise, even application directly to the scalp and hair roots — the areas where lice and eggs concentrate. The cyclomethicone carrier evaporates within minutes, leaving hair feeling clean and residue-free, with no need for extensive washing or rinsing during the treatment period.

How to Use

  1. Ensure hair is dry before application.
  2. Part the hair into sections and spray Nitrid directly onto the scalp and hair, working from the roots to the tips. Ensure all areas are thoroughly covered.
  3. Leave on for a minimum of 5 minutes (or as directed on the pack).
  4. Comb through with a fine-toothed nit comb to remove dead lice and eggs.
  5. Shampoo and rinse hair as normal.
  6. Repeat treatment after 7 days to eliminate any lice that may have hatched from surviving eggs.

Safety & Precautions

  • For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, and mouth. If contact occurs, rinse immediately with water.
