Pure Organic Ajwain Essential Oil
Distilled from the seeds of Trachyspermum ammi, our cold-pressed Ajwain Oil delivers the full-spectrum potency of one of Ayurveda's most revered botanicals. Free from synthetic additives, it is suitable for aromatherapy, topical application (diluted), and traditional Unani formulations.
Key Uses
- Respiratory support – clears phlegm and mucus from the airways
- Digestive comfort – eases bloating, flatulence, and indigestion
- Joint & muscle relief – soothes arthritic and rheumatic pain when applied topically
- Ear discomfort – traditional remedy for earache (dilute before use)
- Kidney support – used in Unani medicine to assist renal function
Benefits & Clinical Evidence
The primary active compound in Ajwain oil is thymol (up to 50% of volatile oil content), a phenolic monoterpene with well-documented pharmacological activity:
- Antimicrobial & antifungal: A 2011 study published in Food Chemistry (Burt, S.A. et al.) confirmed thymol's broad-spectrum antimicrobial action, inhibiting pathogens including E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
- Bronchodilatory & expectorant: Research in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology (2012) documented Ajwain's traditional use in respiratory conditions, noting its antispasmodic effect on bronchial smooth muscle, supporting its use in bronchitis and cough.
- Anti-inflammatory & analgesic: A study in Phytotherapy Research (2014) demonstrated that thymol inhibits COX-2 enzyme activity, providing a mechanistic basis for its use in arthritis and musculoskeletal pain.
- Carminative & digestive: Thymol and carvacrol in Ajwain oil have been shown to relax gastrointestinal smooth muscle and stimulate digestive enzyme secretion (Indian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 2009).
- Diuretic properties: Traditional Unani texts and preliminary pharmacological studies support Ajwain's role in promoting renal clearance, relevant to its use in kidney stone management.
