Do you know why tea tree is called tea tree?
Almost 200 years back, a British explorer named Captain James Cook saw the native Australians preparing a drink from a plant’s leaves. He liked the taste of the tea so much that he named the plant ‘Tea Tree.’ However, this tea tree is not the same as the plant we get our teas from.
Tea tree oil is the volatile essential oil derived from the leaves and twigs of the Melaleuca alternifolia tree, found in Southeast Queensland and New South Wales in Australia. While its location is limited to a very small part of the world, its numerous health benefits have been catching on like wildfire worldwide. (1)
