Intakes in excess of 2000mg per day may cause gastro-intestinal disturbance in susceptible individuals and may also interfere with absorption of calcium and selenium. Vitamin C facilitates the absorption of iron from the diet, therefore high doses should not be taken by those with iron overload syndromes such as thalasaemia and haematochromatosis High intakes of vitamin C should not be taken by those susceptible to kidney stones.
